HP Officejet 8022
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

When powering on the printer/scanner, it normally does one run of the scanner back and forth as part of initialization. Several days ago the scanner goes at what appears like 30mph back and forth literally "banging" into the end of the right side then the left side.  This just keeps happening.  Have to power off to stop it.  Have tried unplugging printer, no change.  Printer is now unusable.

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I understand that your HP printer is not working correctly.

Let's try these steps to resolve the issue:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till the warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Fortunately, I had purchased this printer at Costco - even though it was 17 months old, I had no problem returning it for a full refund.  Thanks Costco!  Always buy electronics at Costco - no problem to return if it fails in reasonable time.  They even refunded the high yield cartridges that were inside since the cartridge "car" was stuck on the far right side.

This problem should definitely not have occurred on a printer only 17 months old and barely used.
