The scan feature of my printer is listed as unsupported. I’m not sure when this occurred. I believe if was after the last printer firmware upgraded. How do I resolve this?

Hi @Hub77,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding scanner listed as unsupported!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
As your HP OfficeJet Pro 9018 scanner is now listed as unsupported (likely after a firmware update), try these steps to fix it:
Restart Everything
Restart the Printer – Turn it off, unplug it for 1 minute, then restart.
Restart Your iPhone/iPad – A simple restart may resolve connection issues.
Restart Your Wi-Fi Router – Unplug it for 30 seconds, then turn it back on.
Check HP Smart App
Open HP Smart App on your iPhone/iPad.
Tap on your printer and check if the scan option is available.
If not, remove the printer from the HP Smart app and re-add it:
- Tap Printers > Select your printer > Forget this printer.
- Tap Add Printer and follow the setup process.
Reinstall the HP Smart App
Delete the HP Smart app from your iPhone/iPad.
Reinstall it from the App Store.
Open the app and set up your printer again.
Check Printer Firmware & iOS Compatibility
On the printer touchscreen, go to:
- Setup > Printer Maintenance > Update Printer
- Install any available updates.
- Make sure your iPhone/iPad is updated to the latest iOS version.
Use an Alternative Scanning Method
If the HP Smart app still won’t scan, try scanning using another method:
Use Apple’s Built-in Scanner in the Files App:
- Open the Files app.
- Tap the three dots (•••) > Scan Documents.
- Save or share the scanned file.
- Use AirPrint (if available): Some iOS devices may recognize the scanner via AirPrint.
Reset Printer to Factory Defaults
On the printer touchscreen, go to:
- Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore Defaults
- Select Restore Factory Defaults and restart the printer.
This will reset all settings, so you’ll need to set up Wi-Fi and HP Smart again.
Try these steps and let me know if the issue is resolved! 😊
