HP DeskJet Ink Advantage Ultra 4729 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Dear Team,

I have a printer HP DeskJet Ink Advantage Ultra 4729 All in one printer. I have installed HP Smart App and connected to printer as well. The printer status appears as Ready and when I click on Scan, I get the error message below.

Couldn't Connect to Scanner
HP Smart cannot scan from this printer. Either no
scanner was detected or HP Smart is not compatible
with the scanner in this printer.

Can you please suggest the steps to fix the error?

Issue is quite urgent.

Best Regards,

Arun

Hi @Arunml85

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If your HP DeskJet Ink Advantage Ultra 4729 printer is showing as Ready but the scanner isn't working in HP Smart, here are some steps to troubleshoot:

Fixing HP Smart Scanner Connection Issues

Step 1: Restart Printer & Computer

  • Turn off your printer and computer.
  • Unplug the printer for 60 seconds, then reconnect it.
  • Restart your computer and try scanning again.

Step 2: Check HP Smart App Version

  • Open Microsoft Store and check for updates to HP Smart.
  • If an update is available, install it and restart your computer.

Step 3: Run HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download HP Print and Scan Doctor from HP’s support page.
  • Run the tool and follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose scanner issues.

Step 4: Reinstall HP Smart App

  1. Uninstall HP Smart from Settings > Apps.
  2. Restart your computer.
  3. Download and reinstall HP Smart from the Microsoft Store.

Step 5: Check Scanner Drivers

  1. Open Device Manager (Win + X > Device Manager).
  2. Expand Imaging Devices or Printers.
  3. Right-click your HP printer and select Update Driver.

Step 6: Use Alternative Scanning Methods

  • If HP Smart still doesn’t work, try Windows Scan (Win + S > Windows Scan).
  • You can also use HP Scan from HP’s full-feature driver package.

Let me know what results you get, and I can refine the approach further! Hopefully, we can get your scanner working again.
