HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 ALL IN ONE Printer

For a while now my printer has not been scanning to my computer.  I do the Doctor scan and it says there is a problem with the driver and to unplug the printer, plug it back in and restart the computer.  It still never works.  I have tried to update drivers.  I can't get it to work.  I even did a factory reset. No luck.

I saw another post about removing the device/software from the computer, but even that gave me an error message.  I need my scanner.  Please help someone. Interestingly enough the warranty just ended about when this happened.
