Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

I was finally able to scan with my HP OfficeJet 6968 on Sonoma 14.2.1 by installing HP Smart from the Mac App Store.  HP Easy Scan would not work and neither would Apple's Image Capture.

Same Problem here. Mac Sonoma 14.0 (now 14.3) does see my scanner (Hp Scanjet 200) via usb-connection, BUT i am not able to mount the divice via "system settings - printer&scanner". HP easy start finds the scanner, but gives me an errorpage @ download software: code 400, bad request.

Throwing a working device to the trash, is environmental madness !

I just wish I would have found this thread before taking 2 hours to troubleshoot my network.  Yes I did many searches but this thread is the one that convinced me it isn't me nor the network.  It used to work fine for years, so thought it had to be the network.  HP 7740 here.  Ugh!!!  Every now and then I need to scan to my computer.  At least I'm not dead in the water and can use that lame HP Smart App.  As a side note...I can't upgrade to 14, so that is why I thought it was a network issue.

I'm having the same problem with my LaserJet Pro 400 MFPM475

Sorry to belabor this issue more, but this appears to be an all HP issue. What I mean by this is, that I have now tested this on two different versions of the Mac OS (including all versions of 14.X and a few versions of 13.X). The issue with connecting to the scanner using the "default" or built in scanner software on Mac OS exists for all versions of Mac OS that I can test. This is following the firmware update that HP posted last year.  3rd party scanning software that complies with the TWAIN drivers, and several of the more open standards have lost compatibility with the HP7740 pro. I have tried Abbyy Finewriter, open source products like NAPS2 (Not Another Pdf Scanner) and several other scanner software packages DO NOT WORK unless directly connected via USB.  Network Scanning without using the HP smart app is a thing of the past. There are several opinions why and the truth probably lays somewhere in between. HP has been clear they believe printing should be a "subscription" and are moving that direction. I am guessing with the new software that requires a login to use the scanning app, this is just one way they can control usage of the product.  I am sure there are some security related changes that the firmware resolved, but this does appear to be an intended change, requiring us to use the HP Smart App. If I am wrong, I will happily change everything written above, but my beloved printer / scanner has lost its luster. I will be searching for a new scanner solution as my workflow requires advanced OCR functionality provided by other applications and network scanning is a plus.
