HP LaserJet MFP M28w

I cannot get the scanner from my HP LaserJet MFP M28w to work wirelessly with my Mac. Every time I try to scan I get an error Scanner reported an error - "Failed to open a connection to the device".

System configuration:
- macOS Big Sur 11.1

I have tried several procedures indicated in these forums. All of them have failed and the error remains. For reference, here is everything I tried:

- install the driver from HP Easy Start (several times, restarting the system every time)

- install HP Printer Drivers v5.1 for macOS from here:
https://support.apple.com/kb/dl1888?locale=en_US

as indicated in this answer
https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Scanning-Faxing-Copying/Failed-to-open-a-connection-to-the-device-2134...

- install essentials package for macOS from here:
http://whp-hou4.cold.extweb.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Installations/Essential...

as indicated in this answer:
https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Scanning-Faxing-Copying/Failed-to-open-a-connection-to-the-device-2134...

- power reset on the printer (unplug, wait, re-plug) as indicated in this answer:
https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Scanning-Faxing-Copying/quot-Failed-to-open-a-connection-to-the-device...

- reset printing system in macOS settings, then restart as indicated in this answer:
https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Scanning-Faxing-Copying/quot-Failed-to-open-a-connection-to-the-device...

- disable IPv6 in the web admin panel, as hinted in this answer:
https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Scanning-Faxing-Copying/quot-Failed-to-open-a-connection-to-the-device...

I checked in the support page and there are no firmware updates to install:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-laserjet-pro-mfp-m28-m31-printer-series/16647082...

I have updated macOS to the latest version at the time of writing this, 11.1

I have run out of ideas to try. How can I successfully scan from my mac, please?
