Electricity recently was off. After that, printer prints VERY SLOW. One line at a time. Scanner will not connect to wireless desktop. Recently updated software.

Hi @RuthA4021 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are facing a power outage and recent software update may have affected the settings or performance of your HP OfficeJet Pro 8135e printer. The issues you're experiencing — slow printing and scanner not connecting wirelessly — could be due to several factors such as a miscommunication between the printer and network, corrupted software, or outdated drivers.
Here’s what you can try to resolve the issues:
1. Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for at least 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
- This can help reset internal components affected by the power outage.
2. Check the Wireless Connection
- Ensure the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your desktop.
- Use the printer's control panel to confirm that it's properly connected to the Wi-Fi. If necessary, go to the Network Settings on the printer and re-enter the Wi-Fi credentials.
3. Reinstall or Update HP Smart App HP printer setup (HP Smart app)
- Since you recently updated the software, it might be beneficial to uninstall the HP Smart app and reinstall it to ensure that no files are corrupted.
- Check for any pending updates for the app on your desktop.
4. Check for Driver and Firmware Updates Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Visit the HP Support page and search for the latest drivers and firmware for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8135e.
- Download and install any available updates to ensure compatibility with recent OS and app updates.
5. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor HP Print and Scan Doctor
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool from HP’s website. This tool can automatically detect and fix common scanning and printing problems.
6. Perform a Printer Hard Reset
- On the printer, perform a hard reset: Press and hold the Power button for 10-15 seconds until the printer powers off. Turn it back on and check if the issue persists.
7. Check Print Settings
- Slow printing can sometimes result from the print quality settings. Go to Printer Preferences on your desktop and check if the print quality is set to "Best" or "High" – changing it to "Normal" or "Draft" may speed up printing.
8. Network Reset
- If your scanner is still not connecting wirelessly, you might want to reset the network settings on the printer and set up the connection again:
- Go to the Network Settings on the printer control panel.
- Select Restore Network Defaults and reconnect to your Wi-Fi.
Additional Troubleshooting for Slow Printing:
- Try printing a test page to check if the slowness occurs with all types of documents or just specific ones.
- Disable duplex printing (double-sided) if enabled, as it may slow down the process.
- Ensure there are no pending jobs in the print queue by clearing the print queue from your desktop.
