Scanning and save w/o PDF

Can a doc be scanned and saved without it being saved as a PDF? My 'save as' gives 2 options - save as .jpg, or PDF.

Scanned content can be saved as any file type supported by the particular application or software you are using to Scan and Save that content.

Available Apps and Software depend on the Operating System / version.

PDF and Photo / Image / .jpg are typical of the options offered by (for example) HP Smart (Windows or Mobile) or Microsoft Photos. 

HP Smart paired with an eligible printer and upgrades to the app can save documents as searchable text or to Cloud storage as Word (.docx).

Saving as a Word document requires software that understands the Word document format.

Search for "Scan to Word" (or similar) using your favorite browser and search engine.

FYI (For Your Information)

Newer HP "e" printers -- with the addition of HP+ service contract or using an eligible non-e printer model - can scan and save as Word (.docx), Searchable PDF, or Plain Text. 

NOTES >>

• Your current older printer is not eligible for HP+ or HP Smart Advance features.
• Your current printer might be eligible for other software options that support Scan to Word - search for information using your browser.
