Every time while scanning multiple pages in the automatic input, the scanner stops after the first or the second page and this error shows: The scanner has an error, an error emerged while communicating with the scanner. Both using the wireless network connection and using the direct USB connection.

Welcome to HP Forums,
This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂
As I understand, your scanner gives an error message while trying to scan from Automatic document feeder,
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
When was the last time it worked fine?
Were there any hardware/software changes made?
Are you able to make a photocopy?
How is your printer connected to PC (USB or wireless)?
If your printer is connected using Wi-Fi connectivity, follow steps from this article: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_1780623-1698506-16
Step 2: Restart devices and check driver scan settings
Step 3: Check the network and printer connection status
Step 4: Check third-party firewall software settings
Step 5: Remove and re-add the printer
Step 6: Uninstall the printer driver and software
Step 7: Reinstall the latest scan driver and software
Step 8: Try other scanning solutions
If your printer is connected using USB cable, refer to this article: https://support.hp.com/sk-en/document/ish_2026111-1786193-16
Step 1: Restart the computer and printer
Step 2: Check the USB connection
Step 3: Remove and re-add the printer to the Mac
Step 4: Uninstall the printer driver and software
Step 5: Reinstall the latest drivers and software
Step 6: Try other scanning solutions
Let me know how it goes,
Have a great day 🙂
Cheers 🙂

Thanks Bud, I'll try your suggestions and let you know.
About your questions:
When was the last time it worked fine?
3-4 momths ago; the first page is always ok, the error happens sometime just after the first page , other times after the second or the third page, so I keep trying and since I never have to scan more than 5-6 pages in a row I manage the situation even if it is a pain in the neck
Were there any hardware/software changes made?
only stardard Mac OS updates, yesterday after reading some form on hp support I downloaded the latest version of HP software, installed everything after having reset any paramenter of the printer to original but the error remains
Are you able to make a photocopy?
Yes, no problem in making many copies in a row using the automatic feed
How is your printer connected to PC (USB or wireless)?
Both connections and the error happens in both connections, originally I was using only the wireless link, so I thought it could be a problem in the wireless network and connected the printer diretly to the Mac using the USB cable, but the problem remains.
