I have found a software solution that will allow the CM1415fnw and thousands of others to continue to work scanning. If what you say has any merit, I will give HP the opportunity to rectify the issue before releasing the name of this software.

Try and install HP Easy Start on your computer, to resolve the issue.

Thanks for the referred software.  Had to jump through a few authentication loops but the solution worked. The scanner is once again available to the system.

Thanks for hijacking the thread. HP Easy Start is a deprecated piece of software that only refers to you to install HP Smart. THIS DOES NOT FIX THE ISSUE.

 

HP - Once again, there is a 20 year old piece of software out there that proves that the issue is HP driver related that I'm reluctant to mention out of sake for my respect of HP. Are you going to fix this issue?

This occurs when the drivers are not uninstalled completely before installing updated drivers.

 

Please delete/uninstall the printer software completely and then try and install the drivers.

 

Uninstall Old version of HP Smart -

 

  1. please delete from /Users/Username/Library/Application Support/HP Smart. Then delete HP Smart from the Applications folder and reinstall from the Mac App Store.

Select your os on the HP Drivers page and install the HP Easy Start.

 

HP Smart is not compatible with your current os.

Didn't realize I had 'hijacked' your thread, sorry.

 

When I mentioned jumping through hoops, that includes the first install attempt that did try to link to the 'newer' HP Smart app which you are correct, does not fix the problem.

 

I started over and forced the HP Easy Start to install which did allow 11.4 to see older HP MFP's.  I should mention that 11.4 systems in our office connected to newer HP MFP's never had a problem.

When you download HP Easy Start, even if HP Smart is completely removed from Mac, it prompts you to download the HP Smart software.  This tripped me up 2x before I figured it out.  Do not click "Get Software".  That will take you back to the same HP Smart problem we have.  Click to close the HP Easy Start entirely and then you will get the option to download the HP Easy Scan.  

 

The HP Easy Scan does work.  It's not as good as having HP Smart fixed, but it will get your scanner back for work today.

Seems as if HP knows very well that their older printers cannot talk to the BigSur OS.  

I'm not at all sure what do to.  If I can print but not scan, how bad is that?  Pretty bad, actually.

One thing's going through my brain:  if I have to buy a new printer over this, it won't be an HP.
