I have MAC OS Sierra 10.12.1 installed and my HP PhotoSmart 6520 series prints fine, but I can't scan. I receice the following error message:
"The HP software required for Scan to Computer could not be located on this computer"
I have performed the recommended trouble-shooting steps including down;oading software & drivers which hasn't fixed the problem. I hope you are discussing this scan issue with Apple and end up delivering a straight forward fix.

Have you tried to connect from your browser?
Type in the scanners IP address in Safari, something like 192.168.1.111
If the scanner have a web interface you can controll your scanner from that interface and do the scannings you need until new drivers from HP is released.
VueScan have a free version that puts a watermark on the scan.
Good Luck

Oh my god, it works! Thank you, you're a hero.
After clicking "Scan" and seeing "Scan Done", I couldn't find the scanned file.
Instead, I clicked "Preview" again, and then dragged the preview image to the desktop. That works.

I have read through most of the responses to this thread and have tried everything multiple times. I have an HP Officejet J4680. Before installing Sierra, HP Easy Scan worked to scan on my printer. Now it opens and just sits there saying Preparing to Scan until it times out. I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it twice. I downloaded the printer drivers that were in a link, my printer shows as supported and I rebooted my computer. I've also tried using the Apple printer utility and it just sits there saying Waiting for Scanner. I uninstalled my printer, as well. The computer sees my printer and printing fuction works. On the HP site looking for my specific model to update drivers, it says Install the HP Printer Driver and Software provided within your operating system. What does this mean? What else do I need to do? I use this scanner for work and need it asap!
Thanks in Advance!
