I re-ran the installation program from 123.hp.com. The program reinstalled the driver for my 8710 (HP Easy Scan software remained the same). I can confirm that this worked for me. I can scan directly from my computer to my iMac running Sierra.

I have read though the various replies to my original post. Has there been updated software/drivers to fix the HP Scan issue when running under MAC OS Sierra 10.12.1? When I reviewed the current version of HP software for my PhotoSmart 6520 series printer/scanner, an old version 12.34 is shown dated 10/22/14. I have tried some of the other workarounds mentioned and most of them only allow me to create a file with one scanned image instead of multiple images. Please let me know if a fix has been made for the HP Scan software!!!

Since I first stated this chain over two months ago there has still not been a solution to my problem. To recap:
- HP Photosmart C7280 working perfectly under MacOS El Capitan as a printer and a scanner.
- MacBook Pro upgraded to MacOS Sierra (10.12) and then to 10.12.1
- C7280 still working as a printer but not even visible as a scanner to either Apple or HP applications.
- Photosmart 5510D on same network still seen as a printer and a scanner by upgraded MacBook.
- C7280 still working as a printer and a scanner with another Mac still running El Capitan on the same network.
- HP web site does not show a new driver for C7280 and Sierra
I have tried all the various suggestions made by other contributors to this chain without success.
So the question remains - when will HP produce the updated correct drivers for MacOS Sierra for a C7280?
Would someone from HP please do me the courtesy of at least answering this question.
Right at the beginning of this chain there was a reply from Sunshyn2005 who looks as if she works for HP. Another answer from her would be very appreciated.
Thanks.

HP, I know my HP Photosmart 6520 is no longer under warranty, but I would still like to think someone from HP could provide a scheduled target date for a fix to the HP Scan issue. Obviously, the current response to this issue would not make me want to buy another HP product. Please provide a professional response to my and many others scanning issues since Mac OS Sierra was installed.
Thanks in advance,

Interesting to see how many others have this problem. I just bought a new Sierra laptop, and one of the first things I discovered was that my - admittedly harly new any more - HP Photosmart 3300 could print perfectly (including duplex) but did not show up as a scanner. I have it connected through WiFi.
I found this discussion on the web and have tried some of the things suggested. I've reset the printing system, my driver shows up as 4.0.5. System preferences and Apple ImageCapture seem unaware that this device can scan. Connecting directly via USB works fine, and is a - shall we say - unimpressive but just usable fallback. HP Easy Scan doesn't see the WiFi connected device. Interestingly, going to the Web page for the device from System Preferences - as helpfully shown in this discussion - does work, even for the WiFi connected device. But in what seems to be a sad reflection of HP software, it provies a way to scan without providing a way to save! (I did find I coud copy the page from Safari, post it into TextEdit and save it from there, but that's verging on the ludicrous.) Also, it provides almost no control over the output, and doesn't seem to be able to scan the whole of an A4 sheet. My old laptop, still running Mavericks, is still scanning OK.
So the problem seems to be simply that the standard driver - the one found by Apple when it sets up the printer - doesn't regard the WiFi-connected HP 3300 as a scanner. But it does if connected via USB. Is there an alternative driver available? - some people seem to have seen a fix recently, but if so Apple don't seem to have it.
I realise this is an old device, but it is disapointing to see this happen. It's been a very good printer and scanner for some years now. I've always been impressed by HP hardware, which I always feel, regrettably, is let down by their software (this was the case even when it was new). I had been thinking it would be due for replacement at some point, but right at the moment none of this discussion is making a case for replacing it with a new HP device.

Thanks to The_Fossette. After installing the latest driver, I also downloaded HP Easy Scan from the App STore and my scanning function finally worked. I assume I should delete my old HP Scan app & use the HP Easy Scan app moving forward?
