I am running an HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909 networked to a Windows 8 PC. I was able to get the digital filing scan to network folder set up, but the problem is that when i go to open the saved pdf on my computer, Adobe Reader says that it can't be opened because it isn't supported or is damaged.
Anyone have a solution?

I recently upgraded to new copmputer with Win8. Installed my 8500 A909n and it was working fine for 2 months. Scan to networked folders (on a NAS drive) worked and scan to folders on my computer worked. Recently (w/o making any system changes or updates I was aware of), scan to network folders continued to work but scan to folders on my computer STOPPED working. 8500 scans to folder on my computer but PDF file size is 0kb.
I have found a number of post with same issue but NO solution. One reply said "that 2 yr old AIO printer won't work with Win8. Needs new firmware but HP is not offering that." BS. It worked "fine" initially.
I have run Scan Doctor and it say "no problem". I have used the HP solution center to start a scan FROM my computer TO a folder in My Documents (sends it to "My Scans") and THAT SCAN IS FULLY INTACT AND FUNCTIONAL. Yet, when using the "scan to network" button on printer itself, scanned image is corrupt and 0kb.
MY guess is there's an issue with 8500 communicating with Win8 computer and it's new sign-in/password nonesense. Yet, I can't seen to fix this. When using the HP solution center to set up the scan to locations, even the ones on my computer test as "OK".

I am linking you to a post by @Shane_R where he is addressing this post. As he is already working on a resolution to this very issue I thought it would be beneficial for you to monitor his thread for whatever resolution comes.

EXCEPT..... my scanning (to a local folder) was INITALLY working FINE even with Windows 8.... and then stopped working.
So, the explanation that the firmware of an a909n 8500 printer will not support Windows 8 is incorrect! I DID function completely normally and correctly for a time but then "stopped" working with the 0kb file error described.
My belief is that there is an issue with connecting/signing-in to the Windows 8 local computer that was introduced during a Win8 update. The Windows 8 login/password set-up is very confusing (and in my opinion, VERY poorly designed) since you can logon as a "local user" or logon with an MS live.com ID (to share comnputer settings amongst computers). It is never really clear to me WHAT my logon name is supposed to be.... or the PW for that matter since you have the choice of a strong PW or a simple 4-digit code. I think THAT is where this new problem is originating and will explore further,.
unless someone else has already figured out a solution which I have yet to find.

Lets try the following steps and see if we can get your printer and computer back to communicating with each other correctly. As this function worked for you in the past this should rectify the issue.
Step 1. Uninstalling ALL of the HP software associated with the printer. Use the level 3 uninstall using HP Officejet Software and Driver Removal Utility provided below.
Step 2. When the uninstall is completed ensure the printer isn't still listed under Server Properties.
Step 3. Lastly, restart your computer and try reinstalling the HP software for the printer using the Printer Install Wizard linked below.

I gave up on the issue for the most part when HP didn't want to devote any further resources to an "OLD" printer. You can still use the scan to computer function from the printer control panel and it will work fine.
In Windows 8 you can also use the Windows 8 app to do scanning from the computer, so in either direction you have a route that will work.
It's possible that the removal utility might improve the situation for some but it didn't work for me. The 8600 machines and newer work fine with no issues, so the next time I have to replace all my ink, I may just replace the machine if there is a sale on. If you get three years from the machine you have done pretty well. I don't think ink is going to be easy to find much longer.
The newer machines are faster and a bit more thrifty on ink used per page.

If I don't get a solution before I run out of ink I will NEVER buy another HP product again. Everything worked, even solution center for the first few months I was on windows 8. Then things started to stop working. This is a bunch of crap. Provide a solution or lose a customer!

Have you tried any of the steps in this thread as of yet? The last post I did in this thread I posted how to remove and reinstall your HP Software. Have to completed this step? If you have and it still has not resolved your issue there are other more in-depth steps that can be taken.
Please feel free to re-post with the needed information we are here to help.
