I have been successfully scanning to email on this printer for three or more years. Suddenly the function wasn't working correctly (I cannot remember exactly the sequence of events - this was a month ago or so, and not only has COVID happened, but my 94-year-old mom had a stroke, too). I did something at that time to get the scan function working, and now I have to enter a PIN to scan to email. I am the only user of this device. I tried to use the recommendations of other posts - ie, going to the EWS for the printer to adjust and there it says that the scan function is turned off. Thank you for your time.

Hi @fiver56
Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.
- Who is your email client?
- Are you able to login to your webmail? Do not use auto-fill to log in.
- Check if you are able to send and receive emails.
- Are you using the scan to email app on the printer screen?
To assist you better, could you kindly attach an image of the EWS page where it says its turned off in your next post?
While setting up scan to email feature, you get an option to either enable or disable the PIN.
Refer to this document for more info(applies to Officejet printers)
You may watch this video for a better understanding.

Here is the web address of the "scan" page of my printer's EWS:
http://192.168.86.34/#hId-pgWebScan
You will see here that it says this function is disabled.
I apologize, I do not know what you mean by "who is my email client". I am using the same email address I used as a student at the University of MN (20 years now). It is a gmail account, but ends in umn.edu. I can access my email, yes. I am usually trying to scan directly from the printer (with the document loaded on the printer). I send and receive emails all day long. This function is working and has not stopped working. I recently upgraded my internet router to a 2nd gen Google router, and still have three Wifi points in addition to that router, however this PIN thing developed prior to my making that change. The printer is on this new network. Yes, I am using the scan to email option on the printer screen. It is here that a PIN is now required and never was before. I have not (consciously) set up a new email user. I do not find the HP folder on my Mac, however - this would seem to be a problem to me, however the EWS shows that the printer is connected to the wireless and the printer is present under Devices and Printers on my computer. I'm using a Mac, so the video did not help me given it shows instructions on a Windows-based computer.
Thank you for your continued help!
So far, this has not resolved my issue.

Also - I am looking at the instructions to Set up the Scan to Email Feature - I so not remember needing to do this initially when I started using this printer several years ago. I did everything on the printer directly and it worked fine until several weeks ago, when this snafu happened and the PIN was required - I do not know what I did here, but do perhaps I need to set up from the beginning again....?
Thank you again.

@fiver56, thank you for the detailed response.
As you are using a Gmail account, refer to the steps in this document.
To check the settings,
- Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to obtain the IP address.
- Type the IP address at the top of your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
- If you get any security notification, click on show details/advanced and 'proceed to this website'.
- Open the Scan tab, under Scan to Email go to Outgoing Email Profiles.
- Press Edit for the required profile and follow the steps on screen by providing the new password only, keep any other setting as is (besides the PIN Code, you may remove it if the browser auto-fills it).
Once you are done press Test and Save and try scanning again.
Let me know how this goes.

I agree and I’ve tried that several times, and cannot get help. The one person I finally reached said that I need to speak with the “Cloud support people” and they are unavailable at this time. I am going to go ahead and try to purchase support thru HP, because my printer is out of warranty.....this has been ridiculous bc of that. When I go to the site I get the virtual assistant on chat and that system always ends with telling me my printer is out of warranty, when I try to chat with a live agent. Sooo frustrating.
Thank you for your attempt to help, tho!
