I am using the scanner. I have scanned a document. I would like to add a document already on my computer to the scanned document. I have then pressed edit to import a document saved on my computer. Whilst in HP Smart I cannot find the document that I have saved to the computer.
If I come out of HP smart and browse the documents the documents are all there.
When trying to import the document from HP smart, no PDF's are available.

You can certainly scan a stack of papers (for example, two or more printed PDF files) into one PDF.
After the content is scanned, pages can be "Edited".

What else?
There are tools and software that can combine PDF files.
Search the Internet for free and purchased software.
For example, open your browser and search for combine PDF
I just tried the Adobe Online combine tool
https://www.adobe.com/acrobat/online/merge-pdf.html
Expected (successful) results - I did log into my Adobe account.
This might be a free trial kind of thing and would not continue to work.
If I had to choose an online / free combine software, this is a possible candidate:
