Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

This notification keeps coming up on the computer.  I downloaded Windows 10 last summer for free, and this seemed to start happening after the last update just in the last two months.  I have reloaded the full HP driver set that Windows said to download with Windows 10, but I still keep having this problem.  The printer shows that it is on the same Wireless network as the laptop computer is on. Please help?

Welcome to HP Forums @hpHelP392,

Thanks for the post.

I understand that keep getting a pop up on your computer " Scantopcactivationapp" has lost its network connection with the printer.

Not to worry, I will be glad to help.

Kudos to you for trying to troubleshoot the issue on your own by reinstalling the printer software on your computer.

Are you facing any printing or scanning issue with your printer?

If you are able to print and scan without any issues, you can remove "Scantopcactivationapp" from the startup items in the task manager.

If the issue persists after disabling it from the startup items, please uninstall the printer software completely by following the exact procedure mentioned below and then installing it on the computer.

Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)

Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)

Go to devices and printers, select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.

Click on print server properties.

You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there, if any.

Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.

Restart the PC.

Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,

Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.

It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).

If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.

Restart the PC again.

Download the latest full feature driver from www.hp.com/drivers and install it on the computer.

Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.

Thanks for the help!  I can scan from either the computer or the printer now without getting the message that the printer has lost its network connectionl.  I just got rid of the "Scantopcactivationapp" from the the start up menu in task manager.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Let's run the HP Print and Scan Doctor:

Use this link for details on using the HP Print and Scan doctor: https://hp.care/2JyaC93

If the issue persists, let's do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:

Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.)  Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

15.) Restart the computer.

Once done, please download and install the software from here:
