HP DeskJet Plus 4120 All-in-One Printer

Error message is ‘There was a problem sending your Shortcut.  Please try again later’

This has occurred in the last few days and I notice there was a HP Smart software update recently

Shortcut is to save to OneDrive

I cannot find anything online

Please help, thank you

Would love to know if anyone has solved this. I have the same error and it affects DropBox, GoogleDrive and OneDrive.

It's really frustrating that OCR is only available through Cloud Storage and not local storage, and Shortcuts is not working with all the common platforms. My observation is that HP's app updates typically break more things than they fix.

Would really recommend other scanner/printer brands for next purchase.

I have the same issues. Really frustrating. Although the hardware seems to be okay and of good quality, I can not recommend the software. There are always changes and often with issues after updates. No I can not use any shortcut anymore... Hope HP will sort this out soon and not break another thing.

Hi @Gi_Gi,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP DeskJet Plus 4120 All-In-One Printer post update getting error There was a problem sending your Shortcut . Not to worry I will help you to get a resolution to resolve the issue.

Let's perform a power drain:

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Remove USB cable, if present.
  • Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
  • Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle

My shortcuts issue is with a OfficeJet Pro 9020. The HP Smart app says that it's already running the latest firmware. So the solution provided does not work for me. Thanks.

Thank you for responding - think I may need to go to another type of printer scanner … I have wasted far too much money and time now, trying to work it out…

Thanks. I have replaced my HP OfficeJet Pro with an AIO from another brand.

HP needs to do better testing when rolling out software updates so it doesn’t break existing features.

HP also needs to relook your software architecture. Making every feature a web application just slows down the entire user experience and user productivity.

No more HP printers for me.

I had the same problem - annoying as the shortcut is a handy thing to have and saves time. I found a work around but was annoying as I had to re-scan the document which was 14 pages as it wouldn't let me come out of smart scan without starting again. I was able to then do a normal scan on the HP smart app on my phone and then share / save and upload to my dropbox folder - interesting I also could have selected smart scan from there too so maybe next time I will just try this way around and if the smart option doesn't work I can then send to dropbox.

No may device is HP 283fdw. I also found out, that the shortcut works with only one page scanning. But as soon as I have more then one page, the short cut fails. However, only one page scanning is not really a workaround. Therefore I would appreciate a solution to this, as I don't want to change the device.
