I've had this printer/scanner for almost 2 years and it has worked well (printing and scanning) without a problem. I just went to scan a document (double sided) from the ADF and the first page scans with vertical coloured striped lines all through it, whilst the second page scans just fine. When I try and make a copy from the glass, the same coloured lines appear on the printed copy.
How can this happen virtually overnight. The last time I scanned it was fine, now it isn't.
I've done all the cleaning steps recommended and nothing works.

Hi @KMHerveyBay,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like there could be a hardware issue with your printer/scanner, particularly with the scanning mechanism or the image sensor. The sudden appearance of colored striped lines overnight suggests a malfunction rather than a software-related problem.
Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try.
- Restart the Printer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve minor issues. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a few minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on.
- Check Scanner Glass and ADF: Inspect the scanner glass and the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF) for any dirt, smudges, or debris. Clean them thoroughly with a soft, lint-free cloth.
- Update Printer Drivers and Firmware: Ensure that your printer drivers and firmware are up to date. You can usually find the latest updates on the HP website or through the printer's settings menu.
- Reset Printer Settings: Try resetting the printer to its default settings. This can sometimes resolve configuration-related issues.
- Inspect Scanner Mechanism: If you feel comfortable doing so, open up the scanner lid and inspect the scanning mechanism for any visible signs of damage or obstruction. Be careful not to damage any components.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
