I have owned this multi-function printer for close to a year & successfully scanned documents to computer files, as email attachments. I use this multi-function product for personal/financial use. I have not been able to scan documents for the past few days. I've restarted my computer & printer.

Hi,
What application are you trying to scan from?
What exact error or behavior occurs when you try scanning?
How is the printer connected to your Mac? wirelessly, too a wired network or with a USB?

Looking to scan from HP Smart, click on Scan button, message states that "Scan unavailable". Now, of course, when I went to the application to reply to accurately reply to your questions, the Scan feature was live. Successfully scanned & saved to desktop file. Computer is wireless connected to my desktop. It's really unreliable.

Try right-clicking the printer in HP Smart and select Forget this printer, then click the plus sign and re-add it. May you see any difference?
If not, move the HP Smart app to the Trash and empty the trash, then reinstall the app from the Mac App Store and check for any difference:
