I'm posting this as a new post rather than add to previous posts.

I posted the above query several days ago and thanks to all who replied took the recommendation and loaded HP Smart and now I can scan. The  feeder doesn't respond on HP Smart but I can live with that. I'm still miffed at HP in that they haven't created a driver for my machine which will work with Sonoma 14 (the driver for version 13 is available but that was the version before I loaded version 14). I'll keep checking HP Support to see if they finally make the driver for 14 available, in the meantime I can get by.

This was my first attempt at entering the forum and I'm sure happy I did. Again, many thanks to all who addressed my query.
