I bought this printer about a week ago, and it connects to print off documents just fine. The alignment test went by without any problems, but I can't scan anything from the device onto my computer.
Here are some things I have tried:
-Running the installation process over again (twice)
-Unplugging, then plugging in / restarting the device
-Downloading the HP Scan program from Microsoft Office
I've gone through all the settings and everything seems to be normal and turned on.
When I try to get into the HP Printer Assistant app, the only thing I've got under the 'Scan tab' is 'Scan a Document or Photo'. There are no other options.
I don't have a smartphone, and I'm connected locally. When I try to connect to a wireless network, it kept telling me that the network can't be found, and eventually I got tired of it and connected locally. And, yes, the cord connecting the HP printer to the computer is plugged in on both ends.
Did I install this wrong? It's kind of important that I get this figured out, I need to be able to scan for my job.

Some ideas... somewhat in order, though it might be good to read through and then start.
If you do NOT have a router
Connect the printer directly to the computer wirelessly:
Make sure Wireless Direct is toggled ON at the printer panel.
Reference > User Guide > Chapter 8 > Use WiFi Direct - Page 88
If you DO have a router on your network
Connect using Standard Wireless.
If you are trying to connect using "standard wireless", that is, you have a router on your network, make sure that Wireless Direct is toggled OFF. Wireless Direct is used when you do not have a network (router) and it is not compatible with regular wireless. Wireless Direct is toggled on / off on the printer's front panel.
Reference > User Guide > Chapter 8 > Set up the printer for wireless communication - Page 84
Make sure your router is broadcasting on the 2.4 GHz bandwidth.
Follow the solutions here
Note the part where it says to make sure the Wireless light on the printer is on-steady or at least blinking... If the light is "off" the wireless radio (the wireless hardware in the printer) is not "on".
When you get to Step 3, open and follow
Steps for printers with touch or text-based control panels
Make sure your Security encryption is AES or a combination that includes AES in the "type".
If the Wireless light is off and / or if the setup in the "Driver Setup" document does not work, set the printer to Network Defaults and try adding the network wireless information directly at the printer panel. This is admittedly a pain-in-the-backside, but it may work when other methods fail...

Commentary
This is really new printer software -- a good thing -- and there is a really new Firmware update to go with it. If you can get the printer software installed, consider updating the printer Firmware.
Printer Software – Uninstall Existing Software (Optional)
If the software is already installed and you want (need) to uninstall it:
Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features >
Scroll down, click, and Uninstall the software
After the software is removed, Restart the computer and log in
If printer software will not uninstall, appears to be removed and then shows up again, or is otherwise not “going away” when you tell it to do so, try an Uninstaller program.

Printer Software - Installation
NOTE: If using USB, disconnect the USB cable between the printer and the computer before starting the installation. Connect the cable when instructed to do so (toward the end of the installation procedure).
Download, save, and install the Full Feature Software for your Operating System version
After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in

Finally
This should work, by the way. If you go through everything and that wireless light on the printer never switches on (the wireless light stays dark), then it is likely that you have the "one in many thousands of printers" in which the wireless is not working. Dead wireless radio is really rare -- it can happen. If it is dead, dead, dead, take the printer back (or contact HP Technical Support , if the "return" window is closed).
