Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

Envy 7855
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just purchased the Envy Photo 7855 today, and I am trying to setup the scan to email piece.  I provide the email address in the initial setup screen, and I get the initial PIN sent to my email.  However, when I type in the PIN, I get the following error message --

"Login Error

There was an error logging in.  Check your Email address and PIN and try again."

I have tried this several times (which the printer sends different initial PIN's every time).  I also applied the latest firmware update before I started this endeavor.

Any ideas why this is not working?

Hi @dowlingg69

Welcome to HP Support Forums. A really great platform for posting all your questions and finding solutions.

I understand that you are unable to setup the Scan to Email feature on your HP 7855 Printer

I'd like to help.

Please restart your Router and computer, then perform a Printer Reset.

(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.
(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Next, we will assign a Manual IP Address with Google DNS

- Print a Network Config Page from the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
- Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
- Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
- On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you do not know the range, change the last set of numbers (those after the last '.') to 250
- Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
- Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway.
- Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS. This is Google DNS. You can choose another external DNS if you wish.
- Click 'Apply'.

Also download the Full Feature Software from Here if you have not done so already. Then setup the scan to Email again

Keep me posted how it goes.

Thank you 🙂

Yes, that seemed to work... although the steps provided does not make sense to me as to how.  Unfortunately, the HP forum page could not remember my username/e-mail address/password, so I had to create yet another new account to respond... so I am unable to click "solution accepted".

Yes, those steps worked... although - for the life of me - I have no clue why those steps would do the trick.  Maybe it was the DNS settings... but I am rather skeptical (I have been in the IT field for over 25 years).

Unforunately, I am unable to give you the "solution accepted" as you wish.  The HP forum site is incapable of allowing me to login with my username/e-mail address/password for some reason, so I had to create yet another new account.

@dowlingg,

I read the post. I am glad that it worked. As @KrazyToad is out for the day, I am responding on his behalf.

Take care and have a wonderful week ahead. 🙂
