HP ENVY X360
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Printer is a HP Color Laser Jet Pro MFP M 281fdw which is not the problem. It otherwise works well and will scan to a backup computer that also has Windows 10. On the Envy, when I attempt to scan it tells me I need the WIA.  All Windows updates have been installed as well as all software on printer.   Both printer and computer are new.  Thanks.

Hi @CraigD2

Welcome to HP Forums. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips

I understand that you are unable to Scan from your Envy Printer.

I'd like to help.

I suggest you uninstall all the Envy Printer Software from your computer from Root Level.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
6.) Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
8.) Click on the “Drivers” tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers

Restart your computer and printer and download the Full Feature Software from Here.

Note: Enter the Product Number of your Printer, Select the correct OS and download the Full Feature Software.

Also please check and download any remain Windows update.

Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates. If Windows Update says your device is up to date, you have all the updates that are currently available.

Let me know how it goes.

Thank you, 🙂
