Officejet Pro 6978
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

[Please note, my profile name is not this printer]

Hi,  I have fresh new Win. 10 Pro 64bit installed on PC. Starting from scratch.

My Officejet Pro 6978 has not required any software yet to print.  It's actually printing from PC to printer (and from another pc in home, too) - all wirelessly.  So no software installed in main PC.  Unless printer automatically installs wirelessly when starting up the new PC.?  But no install seen at "Programs and Features" list in Control Panel.

I like to scan using that tool from HP software/driver that loads into PC.  You open on the PC and can choose specifics & setup to scan a doc placed on the glassbed of printer.  Is that called "Twain" tool?

Where do I obtain that tool?

Also, I do not want to install any drivers, firmware and software as is possible.  They throw things off in my systems and have had so many headaches with previous drivers/software/printers.  Am trying to avoid that again with this fresh start.    But I have only downloaded the HP Print and Scan Doctor.  I tested the Scan function.   All seems functioning (is that possible without software installed?), except one feature isn't and is marked in red-  "Device Manager".  What does this mean?

Thank you!

Hi,

You would need to install the Basic Device software to install a Twain driver, to get a Twain driver you must install the software, for the lack of this software the Driver check error returns.

Without installing any software you may get basic scanning from the OS or using the HP Smart app, with a WIA interface, the Twain interface is being installed as part of below software which must be installed to get such functionality:

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/printers/OJ6970/OJ6970_Basicx64_40.14.1195.exe

Hello ShlomiL,   Thank you!  That is it.

Strange how the printer was functioning without any driver or cord.

Would you know about this issue?

I the problem when the printer was connected to previous computer with Windows 10.

The printer won't print a page from a webpage. Or PDFs. The print viewer  doesn't load, and then fails.  "Print Preview failed".

So now I'm back to that problem.

It does print from an open word doc and certain items on the internet.  It's that "printer viewer".

I thought there was a glitch with Windows 10.

Any thoughts?

Thank you so much!
