I am hoping to get some help.  I have a x476dn and I am using a shared WD EX2 shared drive.  Static IP given to NAS as well as printer, no issues there.  I finally turned off my server and am strickly using the NAS.  I dont know if its related to disabling acive directory on the NAS but I cant seem to get network scanning to work.  Trying the \\IP\drive\folder, trying \\share name\etc and for whatever reason no luck.  Created a new user thinking it was credentials, still nothing.  Tried enabling SMB 1.0 on the computer that I have connected to the network (even though that computer isnt involved) I read somehing somewhere so I thought I would try.  I know the printer is capable, I used to do it.  Its something I have to have so I am hoping for a fix or workaround because its something i use at the office daily.  Thanks guys!

Hi,

The printer requires SMB 1.0 file sharing to connect to a shared folder, enabling a such on your PC would not take effect as you directly connect the printer to the NAS and your PC is not involved in this feature.

I suggest checking if SMB 1.0 is enabled for the NAS with its support provider.

It is possible to have some setting to control a such within your NAS EWS page (or whatever configuration options supplied for the NAS) or that might have changed with a firmware update made for your NAS, this is something to check with Western Digital

Checking your NAS network settings might help, check the SMB2 option on its dashboard and check if that may have any effect (see page 120 of its user guide), also the Active Directory setting might have anything to do with SMB connection. as you say the issue began right after changing its setting for the NAS.

I believe I tried smb1, 2 and 3.  I did NOT reboot NAS so I will try that.  I dont know if SMB takes effect either way without active direcetory enabled though.  I dont think I can have active directory enabled as I dont have a server anymore and I could not get the the drives with it enabled once I turned off the server.  Again ill set to SMB2 as suggested and reboot NAS.  No WD updates available.  I dont think a reboot is the answer because I believe that setting takes effect without, but I will try.

2nd thing you mentioned was NAS EWS, let me check that out too!

Thanks for quciky reply, ill keep you posted!

Tried all but the only setting thatll let my drives work on the network for file sharing are SMB3.  I am at a loss, nothing seems to work.  unless I am mapping it wrong, I dont know what other solution to use.  Is there any work around anyone can think of?

@ShlomiL Still no answer, unreal.  Looks like I am never buying HP. 😞
