When scanning in documents using the HP 1510, I previously had a drop down option of saving my document as a "searchable pdf" which I use to run another program that combines my pdf documents into one large document. Then my computer crashed while installing windows 10 and I lost everything. I went back to windows 7 reinstalled the 1510 printer drivers and all software from the HP website and installed acrobat reader dc as my adobe product. Now when I scan all I see is to scan as a pdf file. How can I get back the option to scan as a searchable pdf?

Hi,
You may check the following 3rd aprty scanning software which scans text to a serchable PDF:
For handwritten text recognision you would need to get a professional OCR software, a such will likely cost... I'm not aware of any freeware OCR program which capable of a such..

Hi,
No, no printer can make this. This is the OCR software which makes this work. Your printer does not have this software (it is more expensive than the printer itself) therefore short answer is: No, it can't.
Now you have options: go out to buy OCR software or try the following free:
http://free-ocr-to-word.en.softonic.com/
http://www.free-ocr.com/
for Word:

Regads.

Thank you the information. I tried the microsoft link but it was only for Vista or XP, not Windows 7. I am not sure why I had the option of saving as a searchable PDF 1 month ago, using the same printer and now that option is gone. I guess I will have to get a program.

Hi,
Which Microft Office version are you using ? You can use similar setup for MS Office 2007, 2010.
Regards.

I am using MS office 2010. I checked the free software previously recommended above, but I need something that will create a searchable PDF that includes text and handwritten information. The recommendations were for only programs that worked on text only. Please help, I cannot afford to pay the monthly fee for acrobat.

Hi,
I don't know any product out there which can search hand writing. Free products only give you basic result and you have to pay to get full features, that is the game. If you are a teacher or student, you can buy FULL Adobe Acrobat version, very cheap (I saw full reatails version at BestBuy lash month for over $550, but only $130 for this same software for students and teachers).
Many more expensive HP printers have the following product included
http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00033108
You can buy it separatly and I think its price is under $100.
Regards.
