Hi @Tom1946

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Cleaning under the scanner glass and the document feeder strip on the HP Color LaserJet MFP M281 cdw requires careful handling to avoid damage. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

Cleaning the Flatbed Scanner Glass

  1. Turn Off the Printer – Unplug it from the power source to prevent electrical hazards.
  2. Open the Scanner Lid – Lift the lid to access the flatbed glass.
  3. Use a Soft, Lint-Free Cloth – Moisten it slightly with glass cleaner or isopropyl alcohol (avoid ammonia-based cleaners).
  4. Wipe the Glass Gently – Clean in circular motions to remove smudges, dust, or residue.
  5. Dry the Glass – Use a dry microfiber cloth to remove any streaks.

Cleaning the Document Feeder Glass Strip

  1. Locate the ADF Glass Strip – It’s a narrow strip next to the main scanner glass.
  2. Use a Cotton Swab or Soft Cloth – Dampen it with isopropyl alcohol.
  3. Clean the Strip Carefully – Wipe along the length of the strip to remove dirt or ink residue.
  4. Check for Stubborn Marks – If streaks persist, repeat the process with a fresh cloth.

Final Steps

  • Close the Lid and wait a few minutes for the glass to dry completely.
  • Plug the Printer Back In and test a scan to ensure clarity.
  • If streaks or lines remain, consider running a scanner calibration from the printer’s settings.

I asked about cleaning UNDER the scanner glass. The key word, which this response ignores is UNDER.

Thanks for clarifying.

According to HP, the scanner glass and document feeder glass strip on the HP Color LaserJet MFP M281 cdw are non-customer accessible areas. HP does not provide official instructions for cleaning under the glass, as opening these components may require specialized tools.

If you still wish to proceed, you can check online resources or HP’s community forums for user-shared methods, but any attempt to clean under the glass would be at your own risk
