Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.
HP Recommended
Envy 7640
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

When I initiate a scan from the touchscreen on the printer, and choose my computer as the destination, I get a popup box on my computer asking me to "select the program to launch for this action."  My choices are two photo programs that I have installed and the HP Scan program.  I would like to set the default to be the HP Scan program.  How do I do this so the scan will proceed uninterrupted and I won't have to select the program each time?

Thanks, Andy

Hi,

You can try this step:

1. Click "Start" button and click "Control Panel"

2. Click "Devices and Printers"

3. Select your printer and right click --> click "Scan Properties"

4. Select "Events" tab

5. Under Actions, select "HP Scan" on the drop down box and click OK.

6. Try again doing scan to computer and see if HP scan will launch

Hope this helps and update me if it works or not, Happy tohelp you.

Hey @amrunner4,

Welcome to the HP Support Forums!

I understand that you are having a screen pop up when scanning from your Envy 7640. I can help you with that, however I am going to need a little more information first. Can you take a screenshot of the pop up you are seeing when you try and scan? Once I see that I should be better able to assist you.

Here is a screenshot of the popup box which appears on my computer screen when I use the touchscreen on the printer to initiate a scan.  I have to choose HP Scan using my mouse before it will proceed with the scan.  The same popup box comes up again at the end of the process when I tell the scanner that I have no more jobs, and I again have to use the computer mouse to choose HP Scan.  The other two choices in the box are photo programs on my computer.  The process is acting like a file which has multiple programs or apps which can potentially handle the file, and it wants to know which you want it to use.  I want to set HP Scan to be the default program so I never have to use the computer/mouse in the scanning process.  The scan would simply begin with a touch on the 7640 and end with the file on my computer desktop (which is where I assigned the files to be placed).

Having to interact with the computer for the scan defeats the whole value of simply using the touchscreen  Does that make sense?
