Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I connected my new  hp 6970  to a 100 Mbit port on my  router (Fritz!Box  7362). But it permanently  looses and renews it's IP address.

When pluging it into a 1GB port everthing works fine.

I then played arrount with the printer's network adapter settings an only got it working when setting it to 100 Mbit half duplex.

But the router port is capable of 100Mbit full duplex.

Also when connectiong my PC to the same router port it will work on 100 Mbit full duplex (auto negotiated).

Any ideas?

Hey there! @edimax, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!

I understand you have ethernet connection issues with the printer.

Don't worry I'd like to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Do you see an exclamation mark in device manager?

Have you tried checking with a different Ethernet cable?

I have checked the specifications of the printer and it supports a maximum of 100Mbps.

Wired (Ethernet) 10/100 Base-TXWired (Ethernet)

I did not make any changes to my printer but I replaced my router recently.

It has nothing to do with the cable (tried 3 different cables) including the cable my laptop is usually connected to.

I depends on which ethernet ports on the router I connect the printer to.

My router has 4 ports: 2 x 1000 Mb/s, 2x100 Mb/s

if I connect the printer to one of the 100 Mb/s ports then I run into the problems described. If I connect it to one of the 1000 Mb/s ports it works fine if link settings of the printer are set to auto.

But it's obviously not a problem of the100 Mb/s ports of my router, because I do not see the same issues when connecting my Laptop or a PC to any of those ports.

Printer software is up to date (MCP2CN1847AR)

@edimax, thanks for your quick response and time.

I appreciate your efforts for writing back to us.

As you mentioned the issue persists only when you connect the printer to 100 Mb/s port.

Try updating the router firmware and check if it helps.

Also, I'd suggest you assign a manual IP address and also disable the IPv6 on the printer. Here are the steps:

•    Obtain the IP address of the printer – You can touch the “wireless” icon on the printer control panel to get the IP address.
•    Type the IP address on your web browser to obtain the printer EWS page on your computer.
•    Go to "Network" tab - General - Select "Network protocols" - Select "Enable IPv4 only" (or similar) - Apply the settings.
•    Go to the “Network” tab – Click on “Wireless (802.11) – Then click on “Network address (IPv4)
•    Click on the radio button which says “Manual IP” and then click “Suggest a manual IP address” to give a manual IP address to your printer.
•    Click on radio button which says “Manual DNS Server” and under manual preferred type 8.8.8.8 and under manual alternate type 8.8.4.4 (This is Google DNS server address)

Lastly, if nothing works try performing a semi-full reset on the printer. As the steps to perform a semi-full reset is confidential and dedicated to your printer.

And I will share you the steps through a private message. Please watch your inbox for more information.

Hope this helps!

Take Care! 🙂
