Hi @book9 ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 6975 All-in-One Printer is displaying an error indicating that the fax component is damaged, and you've already checked the phone connection, power, and fax setup, here are a few additional steps you can try:
- Check for Firmware Updates: Ensure that your printer’s firmware is up-to-date. Sometimes updates can resolve hardware issues. You can check for updates via the HP Smart app or the HP website. Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Perform a Hard Reset: Unplug the printer from the power source and wait for about 60 seconds before plugging it back in. This can sometimes help reset internal components.
- Test the Fax Functionality: Try sending a fax to a different number to rule out issues with the recipient’s fax machine. Also, check if you can receive a fax from another machine.
- Check Fax Settings: Ensure that all fax settings are correct and that there are no issues with the fax line or the phone connection. Verify that the phone line is not being used for other purposes and is properly connected to the printer.
- Inspect the Fax Port: Make sure there are no visible issues or damage to the fax port and cables. Sometimes, a loose connection can cause problems.
- Reset Fax Settings: In the printer’s menu, find the fax settings and reset them to default. This can sometimes clear out any configuration errors.
