was in the middle of scanning with my HP all in one printer and it stopped, and printed out a "web service diagnostic" sheet explaining the printer has not been set up to install updates automatically.  there is so much fraud out there, I hate dealing with computers or printers.  can anyone assist as to how to get it going again?  Its a HP deskjet 3772 and I have never had any issues with it till I wanted to scan a month ago. I do not want to buy another because it is out of warranty

It sounds like your HP DeskJet 3772 is having a scanning issue related to the printer's web services or update settings. Let’s try to troubleshoot the issue so you can get your scanner working again.

 

Reboot Your Printer and Devices

  1. Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Turn off your computer or mobile device that you were using to scan.
  3. Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  4. Restart your computer or mobile device.

Check the Printer's Connection

  1. Ensure that your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer or mobile device.
  2. If the printer was connected via USB, ensure the cable is securely connected.
  3. If using Wi-Fi, you can print a Network Configuration Page to check the connection:
    • Press and hold the Wi-Fi button and the Information button simultaneously on the printer until the network configuration page prints out.
    • Check for any errors or issues in the network section.

Update Printer Firmware and Software

Update the printer firmware:

  • Go to the HP Software and Driver Downloads website.
  • Enter your printer model (DeskJet 3772) and follow the instructions to download the latest firmware.
  • Install the firmware update.

Update or reinstall the HP Smart app or other scanning software:

  • If you use HP Smart, ensure it’s up to date by checking your app store.
  • If you’re using another scanning software, ensure it’s up to date.

Reset Web Services

  1. Access your printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS):
    • Open a web browser and enter your printer’s IP address (found on the Network Configuration Page).
    • Navigate to the Web Services tab.
  2. Disable and re-enable Web Services:
    • Disable Web Services, then save the settings and reboot the printer.
    • Re-enable Web Services and set it to automatically download updates.

Try Scanning Again

  1. Use the HP Smart app to attempt a scan.
  2. If you still encounter issues, try using a different scanning method:
    • Windows Fax and Scan (for Windows users).
    • Image Capture (for Mac users).

Perform a Factory Reset (if necessary)

  1. Perform a factory reset on your printer if the issue persists:
    • Unplug the printer and then plug it back in while holding the Cancel button.
    • Continue holding the button until the power light flashes.
