Thanks for your efforts to help. I am using Windows 7. The only changes I have made was several days ago I installed a new battery for my HP DV4 Notebook. As per instructions with the battery, I did let the battery completely run down three times, which means that Windows did not shut down normally?? Could this be a factor, since I did it three times?

Hi billsouth

That shouldn't make a difference, unless it corrupted the drivers.

Let me know the results from the document I sent you please.

Did you try and scan from the embedded web server?

Did you turn off the start up programs and Antivirus software?

What happens when you try to scan now?

After chasing in circles for many hrs over 2 days for a software/hardware interface issue, I noticed the cover of our HP officejet 6600 was not flat on the glass (right front was slightly higher than left, like it was warped upward).  Further inspection revealed the right back cover bayonette connection was pulled out somewhat (likely from recent manul copying of book pages that can readily dislodge either of the 2 cover connections).  These 2 bayonetter-like connections between the cover back & main body, like other HP All-in-One printers, are plastic, BRITTLE and EASILY BROKEN (been there done that)!!,   BE VERY CAREFUL when reconnecting one or both of these plastic connectors.

After reconnecting the cover correctly, my HP laptop (via Wifi) scanned immediately.  There was NO SOFTWARE issue!!!  Just before finding this breakthrough, my wife mentioned that the HP 6600 was printing, but not copying or scanning.  This is what led me to focus on the printer rather than my HP Laptop software.

Hope this helps others who get caught up in distractions associated with perceived software problems that do not exist, rather something simple is the problem, such as the main switch needs to turned on.  It reminds me of the early 1980s (frustration) cartoon of a gremlin holding a sledge hammer, "STRIKE ANY KEY!!"

hello I have solved the scanning problem it was none of the above. Turns out that this printer is not backwards compatabile with usb 3.0 ports. I purchased a usb 2.0 expansion card installed it in the computer and viola it works. I had to find someone with this printer on another computer to verify this first. My printer on a usb 2.0 on a different computer worked fine. Problem solved

i"ve tried down loading the most recent drivers as suggested. when i run the HP scan doctor and then tell it to fix scanning it tells me I don't have the complete driver for scanning. not sure what to do.

my officeje 6600 suddenly stopped scanning, used the printer doctor. deleted the software and downloaded new drivers.  i did not disconnect the usb.  does this make a difference
