Hi@Karl8710, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
HP Printer Converting to Word from PDF format requires software that is not generally included in the standard printing software.
When the Full Feature Software is installed, a shortcut icon to the Printer Assistant is added to the Desktop.
Open the Printer Assistant > select tab Print, Scan & Fax
Select tab Scan
Select Scan a Document or Photo
Hope that answers your question and you have a great day!

Hi,
This response is an outline of normal operations. I have this printer since 2016 and have completed large number of scans to PDF. Until last week resultant scan was same page size as original, i.e. 8.5 in by 11in PDF document (letter size). Now a letter size scan becomes a 26.5 in by 34.17 in PDF document. After much reading and trying to understand, I have confirmed that producing a scan using printer 'screen' to a usb stick results in a PDF correct page size. The issue is the HP Smart. It produces a scan with the bloated dimensions. How can this be fixed? 123 Smart is not working. How to fix?
Thanks
Karl

I was unable to return to the description of uninstall HP SW and reinstall the printer. Because I could not find HP SW in Programs & Features, nor even ion looking in C & D drive - Programs, etc. How do I find that SW?
Also not I have Windows 10 64 bit which seems to 'becoming' the issue - have tried to 'go back' to an earlier time, but that didn't work either. Please note the printer runs just fine, communicates in all functions. It is that the resultant PDF has bloated page size. Also one comment was to scan to email and thus get it more efficiently into the computer . - can't do as only option available is to scan to USB .
Thanks
Karl

Let's try to do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:
Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.
1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'
6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
13.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo
14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to the Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
15.) Restart the computer.
Once done, please download and install the software from here:

Sorry!
Having attempted an uninstall/install process as above, the difficulty is the same, I.e. while the scan page size is standard letter the resultant PDF page size is about 3 times larger. This is the problem that we started with.

Same exact problem, same exact dimensions on the scan, 26.5 x 34.17. Just started today. Please let us know if you figure out the solution. I end up having to generate a new PDF by sending through a PDF printer.

Hi
Issue is with use of HP Smart software - uninstall HP Smart. Then open HP printer app (for me that is HP Office Jet Pro 8710)
Note that it opens 'right away' no protracted log in search. Then select printer connection type, for me that us USB on desk top and 'network' for laptop. Select Scan tab - and away you go - the resultant scan is same size as original, i.e. letter size.
Just do not use HP Smart.
Hope this helps.
