I have a Color LaserJet Pro MFP M477fnw.  I can print and I can scan to a thumb drive.  I want to scan to my desktop directly.  I am connected with a USB.  I have correctly installed, un-installed and re-installed all software.   When I try to use HP Scan, I  receive an error message "the hp cljm477 scan was not found".    How do I scan directly to my computer?

Hi,

Thanks for reporting the issue.

you can download the HP Print Scan doctor from HP website. It will diagnose and fix the problem for you.

Here is the link

I ran the print and scan doctor - it found no errors but when I tried the test scan at the end it failed again with the hp cljm477 scan was not found error

I am having the same problem When I double click on the HP CLJM477 scan icon on my desktop, I get an error message that states "The HP CLJM477 Scan was not found). I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers several times, and run the HP Print and Scan doctor. No errors were found, yet I still receive the same error. Is there another solution for this error?

Thank you.

I have a Color LaserJet Pro MFP M477fnw. Same problem. Unable to scan. Tried all solutions. Nothing works. Uninstalled and reinstalled HP software numerous times. Ran scan doctor numerous times. Seems like the HP software does not fully install and complete the installation. Checked WIA. shows running. I stopped and restarted WIA. Still same problem. All windows updates current. Tried using the IRIS software. Says it cannot find twain driver. Need help.

I just bought model MFP M477fdw but I think this issue is true for any printer using the CLJMxxx software for scanning. If you will all try something, it should help with understanding this problem.

Go to your printer's control screen and hit 'Scan' and send it to your computer. I'm using Windows 10, so this may only work for those folks. When you scan from the printer control panel, it should pop up a "Windows" scan panel on your deskop (maybe Apple has something similar). Make a selection there but I usually just hit 'Enter'. The scan should appear in the "Windows" scanner pane, after the scanner completes its task. This tells me the communication "TO" the computer, through the router, is just fine. Let's all stop pursuing that avenue.

The problem, IMHO, is the CLJM software. When I first had this issue, I tried opening the HP AiO Printer App and selecting 'Scan'. Be very careful. If you don't uncheck the "Always Use This App", you will have to uninstall it and reinstall the original printer/scanner software from you installer CD that came with the printer. I FINALLY (!!!) got the CLJM back; the "hpscanandcapture" app is so dumbed down, it is practically useless. (Shame on HP software marketing for allowing such a useless app.)

Here's my prommise.

I'm going after this one like a bulldog. Relentless until I find or get an answer. I like the CLJM functionality, especially since it appears to be the only way to do double-sided scanning from the document feeder on top. Using the Scan function on the control panel forces it to be from the glass platen, and of course, single-sided.

Forget any driver re-installs, printer firmware downloads, and certainly the HP Printer Scanner Doctor. The support people are clueless. (Wake up and smell the coffee, HP support! You are wasting customer's time with your silly suggestions. Go try it yourselves, first!)  This is the CLJM software itself. I originally got mine to work again by doing a fresh install from the installer CD, which did something to correct CLJM's connectivity, but that is a horrendous waste of time. There has got to be a real solution from the CLJM folks. Come on, HP! Get crackin' !!

Hang in there. This WILL get fixed. If you can help with this witch hunt, please post here.

After looking at all this stuff, I think I have found a solution (temporary or permanent, however you look at it). Of course, this only solves it for Windows users - sorry Apple-ites.

Microsoft has it's own verison of CLJM. Go get it and install it from

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/p/windows-scan/9wzdncrfj3pv

This allows double-sided scanning from the feeder, etc., etc.

Until HP gets off their duff and fixes their CLJM connectivity issue, this should serve you well. I plan to uninstall my CLJM.

Enjoy world!

Sorry folks, even that didn't work. The issue is not the software. Both CLJM and Microsoft scanners will not reconnect after a period of time.

I found a temporary solution.

On the printer/scanner control panel, go to:

'Setup'

'Network Setup'

'Wireless Menu'

'Wireless Setup Wizard'.

Re-enter your WiFi connection name and passphrase if your SSID is hidden, or tap you SSID name in the list and re-enter your passphrase. Hit 'Okay' and it should show you as connected.

Now go try you scanner software again (HP CLJM or Microsoft Scanner). they should come up as connected.

Still working this for a "Permanent" solution. Stay tuned.

How to Fix the HP Scanner Communication Problem – A Microsoft Issue, Not a Scanner Issue
(This has only been tested with Windows 10, but try it for Win 7 and 8. It also only works with the ‘Microsoft Scanner’ App. It does not fix the HP CLJM scnner software issue.)

  1. In Windows 10, right click the start button and select ‘Computer Management’. Another way to get to this is by right clicking on the ‘This PC’ icon (or ‘My Computer’ in earlier versions of Windows).
  2. Once Computer Management pops open, select ‘Services and Applications’ then ‘Services’.
  3. Scroll down the list and click on ‘Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)’. Double click on it to open a pane containing several tabs to open the ‘Properties’ menu.
  4. Select the ‘General’ tab and ensure the ‘Startup Type’ is set to ‘Automatic’.
  5. Select the ‘Recovery’ tab.
  6. Set the ‘First Failure’, ‘Second failure’, and ‘Subsequent failure’ pulldowns to
    ‘Restart the Service’.
  7. After making the above changes, hit ‘Okay’ then close the ‘Computer Management’ window; the settings are saved. Now for an experiment...
  8. Turn off your printer. This will remove communication to the computer.
  9. Launch any scanner software, either Microsoft Scanner or HP CLJM. The scanner should show a communication failure.
  10. Turn the printer back on, let it fully initialize, and it should now communicate.

So far, this is the only fix that appears to be permanent. Time will tell…
