Printing and scanning are two different functions. Please confirm which function do you use ? I don't know your printer, but normally an AIO (or MFP) printer should have at least 3 functions: Copy, Scan and Print.
- Copy: you can copy a document/image, it works very similar to a photocopy machine.
- Scan: you can scan a document/image and save as PDF file or a JPG file depending on which option you pick
- Print: You can print from computers or other devices depending on functions available on your printer.

I have the same issue. I have a brand new HP 6978 printer/scanner/fax. When scanning to my PC directly from the scanner, the option to "save as .pdf" is no longer available. ALL scanned docs save automatically as an image file, which is REALLY annoying.
On the other hand, if I scan using the scan ferature from my laptop, I can designate to save as .pdf, but the scanned doc is MASSIVE. The viewable version saves to 13% scale. When viewed at 100%, it's freakishly large.
HP scanners did not use to work this way. The scan/save as .pdf used to be an option. PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!!
