Adding HP Smart app is not an option.  Why would I load that garbage on my phone?  I only want the basic driver.

I added the HP Smart to my computer.  It does not help at all.  The issue is still the same.  I guess I will have to get another printer.  Just not an HP.

HP Smart is not an option without internet access. I scan confidential documents using a USB cable and a computer that is NOT connected to the internet (I.e. no wireless transmissions to be intercepted).  My MFP M28-M31 scanner has worked perfectly with HP scan until this week. Now it either does not capture an image after the scan bar completes its scan, or only does so intermittently.  My MFP M28-M31 scanner has now become mostly useless. .  Thanks, HP -- unless you can provide a fix for this.

I did manage to find somewhat of a work-around ( NOT for the faint of heart!!!) -- it's a new little game called HP scanner roulette. It's played as follows::

 

Start HP Scan

click on Scan

did you get an image?   Nope.

click on "Add more pages ...", then click on Scan

did you get an image?   Nope.

click on "Add more pages ...", then click on Scan

did you get an image?   Nope.

Ok -- so we're up to 3 images scanned at this point -- you get the idea.  So far the highest number of consecutive failed scans is 38.

 

Just continue for as long as your luck and/or patience holds out.  This is best done while doing something useful, since the scans mostly aren't going to work -- you just take a break whenever you happen to get one that works to save the file ..

 

So now I'm trying to figure out who makes a scanner that actually works ...

If your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29w printer scanner is not producing an image that you can save, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some troubleshooting steps to help you identify and potentially resolve the problem.

 

Check Scanner Glass and ADF:

  • Ensure that there are no obstructions or debris on the scanner glass or the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), if your printer has one.
  • Clean the scanner glass and ADF with a lint-free cloth and mild glass cleaner if needed.

Scanner Lid:

  • Make sure the scanner lid is closed securely.

Scanner Settings:

  • Check the scanner settings on your computer. Ensure that the scanning mode is set correctly (e.g., color, grayscale, or black and white).
  • Verify that the scanning resolution is set appropriately. Lower resolutions may result in faint or unreadable scans.

Driver and Software:

  • Ensure that you have the latest HP printer drivers and software installed on your computer. Visit the HP website to download and install the latest drivers if necessary.

Network Connection:

  • If you are using the scanner over a network, ensure that the printer is connected to the network and that your computer can communicate with it.

Scanner Software:

  • Check the scanning software on your computer. HP usually provides scanning software that allows you to configure scan settings. Make sure the settings are configured correctly.

Check for Error Messages:

  • If there are any error messages or codes displayed on the printer's control panel or your computer, take note of them as they can provide clues about the issue.

Restart the Printer and Computer:

  • Sometimes, a simple restart of both the printer and the computer can resolve communication issues.

Test with a Different Document:
