@Shelby3112, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your scanner issue!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

It sounds like your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw is not storing scanned documents on your laptop as expected. Here are some steps to ensure proper setup:

Verify the Scan to Folder Setup

Open HP Scan Software:

  • Search for HP Scan in the Windows Start menu and open it.

Select a Scan Shortcut:

  • Choose a preset like Save as PDF or Save to Computer.

Check Save Location:

  • Click More > Destination to confirm where the files are being saved.

Enable ‘Scan to Network Folder’ (If Applicable)

Access Printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS):

  • Find your printer's IP address by printing a network configuration page (Press Setup > Reports > Network Summary).
  • Open a web browser and enter the printer’s IP (e.g., http://192.168.x.x).

Configure Scan to Folder:

  • Go to the Scan tab and select Scan to Network Folder.
  • Add a new folder destination (ensure your laptop folder is shared on the network).
  • Use your Windows credentials if needed.

Check HP Smart and Windows Scan App

  • Try scanning using HP Smart App or Windows Fax and Scan:
    • Open HP Smart > Select Scan > Choose destination.
    • Open Windows Fax and Scan > Click New Scan > Choose your printer.

Check Permissions and Firewall

  • Ensure your folder is not write-protected.
  • Temporarily disable the firewall to see if it's blocking the scan.

Let me know if you need more help! 😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!
