trying to scan multiple pages into one pdf file on HP 3830

I'm trying to scan a 3 page letter into one .pdf file. The scanner scans three separate pages and I can't save them as one document. The scanner won't scan multiple pages, either. It stops after one page and then starts a new scan with the next page. I would like to create one file with multiple pages.

Hi,

Please try

  Double click printer icon on desktop,
  Select Scan a Document or Photo,
  Put the first page on the glass (face down),
  Check options (size, dpi ...), and select Scan document to file,
  Click Scan - machine will scan the first page
  Remove the first page on the glass, put the second page,
  Click + (plus sign) It sits on the left hand side of a red x
  Machine will scan the second page, put 3rd page on the glass and click + again ..... to the end then click Save
  Click Done after Save

Or try HP Scan Extended using the following software

     ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi

Once it's downloaded and installed, for Windows XP:

(a) Click Start, All Programs,
(b) Scroll down to HP group/folder,
(c) Double click "HP Scan Extended"

Thank you. However, I don't have a printer icon on my desktop. Should i reinstall the driver? Any other way to get this?

Hi,

How do you access HP Scan now ? You have to start from computer, not from printer and do not use over 300 dpi.

Thanks for your reply. Ok, the printer icon comes up when i select scan from the printer. I clicked on New Scan and a dialogue box opened. I clicked on all the appropriate settings (paper size, document feeder, document, b&w, etc), then clicked on Scan. The printer took all three pages through the document feeder and scanned them into three separate documents. There is no plus sign on the printer dialogue box as you mentioned. I thought I had figured it out by using the document feeder, but it still saved three separate documents. Very frustrating. Thank you for your help. Any further suggestions? Is there a way to take the three separate docs and save them as one?

Hi,

Firstly please try a first and then b (if a doesn't work):

(a) Install HP Scan Extended as mention above,

(b) Install a software called PDFsam. You can download from the following link:

     http://www.pdfsam.org/download/

This free software allows you to Split one big file to many small files (such as extracting chapters from a thick book) and also to Merge many pdf files to one pdf file.

Other option: re-install printer software and drivers using the following package:

        http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software13/COL61240/mp-147826-1/OJ3830_Full_WebPack_1119.exe

Thanks. I will try these downloads. In the meantime, in order to get a contract over before the deadline of 5 pm, I copied the scans separately and pasted them into a Word doc. Labor intensive, but it worked for now. I will check out these downloads and hope they solve the issue later this evening. Thanks again for all of your help.

Thanks for the tips! I found your instructional most helpful 🙂 The "+" on mine is very faded, not really recognizable at all, but there were just the 2 icons under the page area, so I clicked the left one and was good to go!

I tried the method suggested for scanning multiple pages into one PDF using HP officejet 3830 and it DOES NOT WORK.  There is a plus icon at the bottom left of the screen, but it is not red or active in any way.  I need better advice.
