Officejet Pro 8600 Plus
macOS 10.14 Mojave

I've been scanning to e-mail for years on my Officejet Pro 8600 Plus, one day after the power went out I got the prompt "username and password are incorrect." I don't have the option to change my username and password. I have been using MacOS 10.14 Mojave before it stopped working and am using the same operating system now. What do I do? The only Youtube video I was able to find by HP only applies to Windows.

Hi,

This is likely due to security changes of your email account, either by yourself or by your email provider.

Please clarify what email service you are using with the printer to Scan to Email.

I assume the email I tied to the printer upon setup would have been my gmail address ([Personal Information Removed]), but it might be [Personal Information Removed]. However,  I don’t even know where to go (either a website or a menu on the printer) to confirm or update or change the settings... Can you provide me instructions on how to update my username and password? I already "restored network defaults" under "Network" and "restored factory defaults" under "Tools" using the printer menu. According to the printer I am connected to the network, but when I submit a scan, I get the error "username or password is incorrect. Make sure user account and password are valid." but I have no instructions as to where to go to do this.

Thank you, ShlomiL, you pointed me in the right direction to check my e-mail service. I had to go to my Gmail's security settings and turn "Less secure app access" ON in order to get the printer to recognize my username and password and send scans again using my gmail account. On one hand I am relieved that the problem is "solved," but on the other hand I am not feeling great about the fact that I have to make my gmail account less secure in order to be able to continue to use the "scan to e-mail" option on my printer.

Hi,

You may also disable Less-Secure apps from Gmail's security options
https://myaccount.google.com/security

You may then enable under the Signing in to Google section the "2-Step Verification" option and then create an App-Specific Password and use it with the printer:

https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/185833?hl=en

This allows the printer to access a more secure Gmail account.
