I have an Officejet Pro 9135e All in One that won't scan from scanner to computer. Wireless printing is no issue. Have downloaded HP Smart--it shows the printer but when selected it indicates that the printer is not on--when it is.

Hi @overeducated,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
To resolve the issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 9135e All-in-One printer not scanning to your computer, even though it prints wirelessly without any problems, follow these steps:
Step 1: Ensure Proper Connection
Check Printer Status:
- Make sure the printer is powered on and connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.
- Ensure there are no error messages on the printer's control panel.
Restart Devices:
- Restart your printer, computer, and router to refresh the network connections.
Step 2: Update or Reinstall HP Smart
Update HP Smart:
- Make sure you have the latest version of the HP Smart app installed on your computer. Check for updates in the app store (Windows Store or macOS App Store).
Reinstall HP Smart:
- If updating doesn’t help, uninstall the HP Smart app and then reinstall it from the respective app store.
Step 3: Check Scanner Settings
HP Smart App Settings:
- Open the HP Smart app.
- Click on the printer icon and ensure it shows the printer as online.
- Try to scan from the app directly.
Use HP Print and Scan Doctor:
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool. This tool can diagnose and fix many scanning issues automatically.
Kindly check the next set of steps in the next post.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi @overeducated,
Kindly check the next set of steps below.
Step 4: Verify Network Settings
Printer's IP Address:
- Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer to find its IP address.
- Open a web browser on your computer and enter the printer’s IP address in the address bar. This should open the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS).
Check Wireless Settings:
- In the EWS, verify that the printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.
- Check the network settings to ensure there are no connectivity issues.
Step 5: Firewall and Security Software
- Temporarily Disable Firewall:
- Temporarily disable any firewall or antivirus software on your computer to see if it is blocking the scanning function.
- If the scanner works with the firewall disabled, configure the firewall to allow HP software and printer communication.
Step 6: Update Printer Firmware
- Check for Firmware Updates:
- Go to the HP Support website and search for your printer model.
- Download and install any available firmware updates for your printer.
Step 7: Reconfigure the Printer
- Remove and Re-add Printer:
- On your computer, go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners.
- Remove the HP OfficeJet Pro 9135e from the list.
- Re-add the printer by clicking on Add a printer or scanner and follow the on-screen instructions.
Step 8: Alternative Scanning Methods
Use Windows Scan App (Windows):
- Open the Windows Scan app (available from the Microsoft Store).
- Select your printer and try to scan.
Use Preview or Image Capture (macOS):
- Open Preview or Image Capture.
- Select your printer from the list of devices and try to scan.
If the issue persists after trying these steps, consider contacting HP Phone Support for further assistance, as there may be a more complex issue with the printer's scanner functionality.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
