Getting the Envy 4520 to work wireless with a MAC was convoluted, but didn't compare to the pain of trying to get it to work wireless with a PC running Windows 10 (Windows 10 Build 16199.rs_prerelease.170513-2252 64-bit).
I went to the HP Customer Support Software and Driver Downloads Page:
- Recommended Download: HP Easy Start Software. Yet when you select this, you get the following error: The requested URL /pub/softlib/software13/printers/HPEasyStart_5_0_3133_35.exe was not found on this server.
- Next, I downloaded the HP ENVY 4520 series Full Feature Software and Drivers (EN4520_Full_WebPack_1122.exe). Here is the twisted mess I wandered through to run this lovely app:
The installation starts out O.K. with the basic software installing and finding the HP ENVY 4520 series printer and the IP address. When I select the device for the network device installation, the screen is stuck with the installing network device message for well over 5 minutes and then returns the message "device unable to be installed over the network". I clicked on Help and tried all the following:
- Printer or computer might have lost network connection or they are on different subnets: I confirmed both the printer and PC were connected to the wireless router (how else would the PC have found the printer in the first place?) and on the same subnet.
- Security software is blocking installation: I turned off both my firewall and virus software. This did not fix the issue.
- Router is not working: Instructions say to remove power from the router for 30 seconds, reconnect the power cord and click Retry on the screen. This did not fix the issue.
I then selected "Search HP online resources for a solution". The error report gets submitted and solutions are downloaded. Did anyone from HP test these to see if they really work?
- Solution 1: Uninstall the HP software, reset the printer, check Windows services, and reinstall the software. The solution gets stuck in a loop........It finds the printer, you select the printer and then it takes you right back to finding the printer.
- Solution 2: Uninstall the HP software, run Microsoft Fix it, disable startup services, and reinstall the software: This has so many steps that it is almost unintelligible. It shouldn't be that hard to connect a PC to a printer wireless. I got it to work on my MAC with OS X 10.11.6.
- Solution 3: Check router settings and restart network devices: For what router did you write these instructions? There are no settings on my router for either Channel or Network Mode.Â
The process is ridiculously stupid and i'm still unable to connect to the 4520 wireless from my PC. Bottom line is unless you have a solution that works, I'm returning this to Amazon and buying a different printer. Maybe an Epson.
And what really makes me angry? I registered on the HP Support Forum two days ago and now THE SITE CAN'T FIND MY EMAIL ADDRESS. I had to re-register. See name AllenGeorgetown.
