Hello everyone,
we just got our new PageWide Pro 477dw and there is a problem with the original HP driver for OS X.
Every time when we try to print Pages (e.g. from InDesign) containing images which are supposed for offset print later, the printer needs a long time to start printing (min. 30/40 sec. per page). If we have to print several (40 or 50) pages … it's simple math … the printer needs much time for such jobs.
Our HP Officejet Pro 8620 doesn't have this problem at all. It prints the same pages within few seconds. Both are connected over LAN and the drivers are up to date.
We have done much testing to find a solution and we have seen one major difference. When we print, lets say one page on the 8620, the computer will send only a few kB to the printer, while printing the same page out of the same program will provoke the computer to send dozens of MB to the 477dw.
The only solution we have discovered to stop this behavior is to install the printer manually, using the AirPrint protocol and drivers. Then the 477dw is working with the speed, which HP is advertising.
Is the behavior when using original HP driver normal?
Is there a solution to use the HP driver and have the same speed like with the AirPrint driver respectively the 8620?
We've tried the HP telephone support. The guys are nice, but they obviously don't know enough to help us here – they are more for hints like "Have you tried turning it off and on again? 🙂
We hope here we'll find someone with more notion with such problems.
Thanks in advance and greetings fom Germany,
Darko
