My HP Officejet 6500A Plus just ran out of black ink.
The 920 XL Black ink cartridge just removed had warranty date 2016/08, but still worked until it went empty.
I just opened a new geniune, non-refurbished 920 XL Black ink cartridge, which had a warranty date 2015/08, which is much heavier than the removed cartridge and still contains a lot of liquid ink. I installed it, got the genuine HP configirmation, but the cartridge still shows empty. I tried restarting the printer and some test prints, but no black is printed. Color is all fine.
I assumed the new cartridge was broken, so I opened another (also outside the warranty date: 2018/08). This is also a geniune, non-refurbished HP cartridge. This cartridge is as heavy as the 2015/08 one, and also contains liquid ink. After the confirmation it is a genuine cartridge, it also shows empty.
(The reason I had two in stock is that I occationally print a lot and then don't print anything for quite a while. I replaced the color cartridges regularly (because they wernt empty due to their lack of XL), so I had the two associated black XL cartridges waiting to be used. The current color cartridges are 2018/08 and work fine. The reason I used the 2016/08 cartridge before the 2015/08 cartridge was that I was unaware of these dates until about an hour ago in 2019).
My conclusion is that the printer is broken,so I am not going to buy yet another set of cartridges,
However, it is strange that the printer recently still printed with the old cartridge, until it got empty.
Does anone have any suggestions for things to try to reanimate the printer/cartridge?
