phantome, you can see my hp 700-292d can insert normal sized graphics card but the wiring will be hit. I believe a mini-ITX graphics card can fit your PC but whether the top plate will hit the power connector. As modern graphics card need more power than the PCI slot can provide, so need externel power connector. MSI gaming 4G needs 500W(needs six pin+eight pin connector. http://www.msi.com/product/vga/GTX-980-GAMING-4G.html#hero-specification. Second is airflow.  My card runs to 75Ç on battlefield 4. I have a hp 8300 for office PC. They are not design for gaming. And I must say thanks big  dave 3dmark went from 4300 to 9100.

Hi phantome,

Have you ever heard the statement "You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear"?  In short, your PC will never be a top quality gaming PC.  You have three strikes against you. 1. Low performing motherboard 2. Insufficient room for a quality graphics card 3. Poor power supply choices.  Quality gaming is getting a minimum performance of 30 FPS and a quality performance would produce 60 FPS.

HP has some PCs on sale that with a couple of custom third party upgrades might get you into the quality gaming performance range.

Hi ajib,

You might get better assistance on the HP Enterprise Business Forum since you have a business class PC.

Hi, i was wondering if i could fit in a GTX 980 in there and if it has enough power, is this possible?

thank you

I don't know what your case is but i found that the best way was to just open it up and see.

I measured the space in the case for both psu and gpu and thankfully I have loads of room in height, a bit tight in length but just fits the card I purchased. 🙂

Open up the case, see and measure the space and go from there

Hello Big_Dave,

Thanks for the great and helpful post !

I want to upgrade my HP Pavillion HPE h8xt H8-1260t (Product # EPP_00_A5U32AV#ABA / SKU:A5V32AV#ABA)  to a video card the can support 4K resolution.

These are the specs of the HP:

Windows 7

Intel i7-2600 with Turbo-Boost

12GB RAM

128GB SSD + 1TB HDD

Presently has the Radeon HD7570

Beats Audio - integrated sound (must be on the mother board)

460W Power Supply

With the above configration I have 2 x 28" monitors connected and it's been working well for 3 years.

I bought today the Zotac GEForce GT740 with 2GB (here's the product link: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/zotac-nvidia-geforce-gt-740-lp-2gb-ddr3-pci-express-graphics-card/738311...

Installation was a breeze - the GT740 fits easily in the same slot as the Radeon.

However, upon boot sequence - the 1st monitor (connected by HDMI) turns on to the BIOS screen and then stops there while beeping in intervals. Eventually, its stops that too and the monitor stops receiving a signal altogether (goes to sleep).

The 2nd monitor never receives signal.

I read that it's recommended to have a power supply of 400W+ for the GT740 - which I do, hence

I'm writing this question...

Any ideas? can the mother board on this HP support this video card?

ANY HELP will be greatly appreciated including a recommendation to go with a different

video card.

THANKS!!

Hi Zohan777,

The NVIDIA 740 is probably not going to work in your PC.

Running the new 4K resolution is most likely going to require you to replace the 3 year old monitors and invest in a really good graphics card.  The AMD upper end graphcis card do perform better than the NVIDIA models at 4K resolution.  Look at the Sapphire models posted on the Sapphire web site for a card that can run legacy and UEFI mode. The power supply will also need to be replaced.
