I have a printer that is hooked into an Instant Ink account.  I purchased a new HP one, only to find out it doesn't use Instant Ink.  Because they shipped me lots of extra cartridges for the old one, I thought I would use them up before I switched printers.  Instant Ink is now saying I can't cancel my subscription without my printer being shut down.  This seems crazy and I hate to waste all these cartridges that I paid for just because they say they won't let my printer operate.  Does anyone know how to get around this or if I can get a refund for the unused ones from Instant Ink?

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.

The printer won't be shut down in the sense that you can still use the printer without having an Instant Ink subscription.

You cannot, after the service is terminated, continue to use the Instant Ink cartridges that were provided as part of the subscription.

Cancelled Instant Ink service and now I can't print

What?

The ink cartridges provided by the Instant Ink subscription - including any cartridges activated by the subscription -- are the property of HP.

The subscription is a Print-by-Page model -- ink is included at no extra charge to the subscription plan.

After the subscription is cancelled, the Instant Ink cartridges cannot be used in any printer.

Remove all Instant Ink cartridges from the printer.

Return the cartridges to HP in the same envelope you used to send back your depleted Instant Ink cartridges.
