Hava had my HP ENVY Photo 6255 for a few months in my dorm with very few issues. Occasionally, it would refuse to print my documents, producing a pop-up that said the "Printer is in an error state." I would just run the troubleshooter and it would fix itself. However today the troubleshooter has continuously said that it could not find a problem. My documents will enter the print queue, enter an error state, and sit there until I've manually cancelled them. I've tried restarting both my laptop and the printer, but since I'm in a public university dorm I can't restart any router or connectivity device. Any advice?

Welcome to HP Forums,
This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂
As I understand, your printer gives an error message "Printer is in error state"
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
- When was the last time it worked fine?
- Have you made any changes on your printer (Hardware/software)?
- Are you able to make a copy?
While you respond to that, let's try these steps to fix the problem:
Hard Reset:
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
- Remove USB cable, if present.
- Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.
- Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord (This is important) and then plug back the power cord to the printer.
- Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.
Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor :
-
Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.
-
Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.
-
Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.
-
If your printer in not in the list, turn it off and on, and then click Retry.
-
If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.
-
-
If a screen displays prompting to turn on printer updates, click Yes and continue.
-
If a screen displays prompting to make your printer the default printer, click Yes and continue.
Root level uninstall and reinstall printer drivers:
- Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Envy printer entries and uninstall them.
- Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
- Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
- Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
- Again, go to run window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
