I have a new Office Jet Pro 8720 and while it worked fine for a couple of weeks it stopped printing in the wireless mode. The message I get was that it cannot not connect to the printer. I have done all the recommended troubleshooting (turn printer and computer on and off, unplug printer, make sure the printer is listed etc). In frustration I tried it the old fashioned way, ie. connect the computer to the printer with the provided cable and that worked for a bit now I am getting the same message.
In the meantime the printer is telling me that I need to connect the printer to get instant HP Ink status but of course it wont' connect!!!
I really find wireless printing very unreliable and would like to go back to the wired printing and forget the instant ink status. It's not worth the aggravation.
Argh!

Hi,
Try removing the printer and then re-adding it by opening the preferences tab and then selecting "printers & scanners".
From there, click the minus sign under the printer icon to remove the printer and then re-add it using the plus sign.
This often helps if you are experienceing printer offline issues regularly.
If you still can't find the printer, I would try the steps with the usb connected and if a wireless connection is established, then remove it.
If the issue persists, restart your mac and try again and if this doesn't help, then restart your router also.

Have an older windows 7 computer. Attempted all the solutions recommended online.
Finally learned thru HP tech support that the 8720 driver does not work with my older windows 7.
Tech downloaded HP Deskjet 9800 printer driver and all was solved.
Good luck.
