The battery pack in my HP Envy 15 notebook is swelling severely, and has caused permanent damage to the trackpad.
My wife and I first noticed it when the track pad would begin to lift slightly. She thought something was stick inside. But after the course of a few weeks, it began to lift higher, by several centimeters. I then noticed that, on the underside, the cover to the battery pack was bulging. I finally was able to remove the cover, and the battery back had clearly expanded to the point of the individual cells inside becoming exposed. Even with the notebooke powered off and the cover off, the pack appears to continue expanding.
This must be a faulty battery design and does not look safe. I have owned several laptops, some longer than this one, and have NEVER had this happen with the battery. Could someone please advise?

Hi,
Try not to touch the battery and remove any power supply. I would also stop using the PC immediately and bring to service centre. I will also try to contact a moderator who can maybe help you with HP support.

Also just so you know, the HP Envy 15 had a battery recall.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

When can I expect to be contacted by HP? I just tried bringing it to an authorized HP service center, and they wouldn't even touch it after seeing it. In fact, they said I'm not supposed to even bring it into the store, after seeing how swollen the battery was. This must be serious! Reminds me of Samsung's exploding galaxy notes! I need to know what to do with this asap, and what HP will do to resolve.

I have a similar issue. I typically use my HP Envy 15t-ae100 laptop while connected to a docking station. Several months ago, the cursor started jumping around randomly while connected to the docking station. Not only was it jumping around, but it would randomly select and click on screen content whenever the laptop was closed. However, everything behaved normally if the laptop was left partially opened. I also noticed a change in the tactile response of the laptop touchpad. It didn't respond consistently and I couldn't hear/feel the typical "click" when it was pressed.
I removed the back cover of the laptop today to investigate the touchpad. I discovered that the battery was swollen to the point where it was pressing against the bottom of the touchpad. This is what was causing the cursor to move around and click by iteself. I removed the battery and ordered a replacement, but then I came across information about the recall and cancelled my order just in case it's covered by the recall. I'm currently using my laptop on AC power. I can't use the automated utility to check whether my battery is affected because it's already removed from the laptop, and I'm not about to reinstall it in the swollen state! It's currently out in the garage in an area where nothing can catch fire if it decides to suddenly ignite. What should I do?
