Hello,
I know HP Victus 16-e0262nw (AMD Ryzen 7 5800H, GeForce RTX 3060) can be upgraded from 2x8gb to 2x16gb of RAM and I have tested it successfully. However, I got a problem when I tried the 2x32gb RAM option:

1) The latest, upgraded F.15 Rev.1 BIOS reports 0gb of RAM. However, Windows 11 identifies RAM correctly as 64gb.

2) The Windows run fine until the laptop abruptly shuts down in about 10-20 minutes or so. It can happen while the system is in an idle state. Then the laptop has to be switched on to run until it decides to shut down again.

The new RAM modules used in the tests have recommended timings and both RAM kits use Samsung memory chips:

2x16gb: G.Skill Ripjaws F4-3200C22D-32GRS - runs fine.
2x32gb: G.Skill Ripjaws F4-3200C22D-64GRS - shuts down in a while.

I installed the latest software drivers and Windows updates.
As I have read, AMD Ryzen 7 5800H CPU and chipset do support 64gb of RAM, some Victus laptops even come with 64gb RAM preinstalled. So, can it be the case the HP Victus 16 (16-e0000) BIOS is not configured properly to handle 64gb RAM?
May I hope for a release of a new BIOS with a fix to support the maximum amount of RAM or are the users stuck with 32gb as the top?

Just an update on my experience with Samsung RAM 2x32GB (M471A4G43AB1-CWE). It works fine so far no unexpected shutdowns appeared.

Sorry you are asking too much. Even Crucial says your machine supports 32GB (2x16GB max)

Thank you, I have seen that already. Crucial says from the HP official specs. I do not think asking the manufacturer to support what the hardware is capable of is too much.

For example, this post https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Gaming-Notebooks/My-2022-Victus-laptop-keeps-shutting-down-randomly/m-... mentions a similar HP Victus model 15t laptop with 64gb from the factory experiencing random shutdowns also.

I cannot speak from experience with this laptop series, but HPs have a very negative history with GSkill Ripjaws memory. Is that what was installed from the factory? Or are you saying you first upgraded from 16 gb to 32 gb and then to 64 gb? Crucial often offers memory kits with more capacity than official HP max. They do their own testing and of course it is in their interest to supply more expensive memory as long as they are sure it works. In this case, they list the max as 32 gigs and do offer their own Ballistix memory as an option so I would say you are limited to 32 gigs.

Well, the laptop originally came with 2x8bg Samsung RAM. I have successfully tested 2x16bg G.Skill Ripjaws F4-3200C22D-32GRS kit consisting of Samsung chips. However, 2x32gb G.Skill Ripjaws F4-3200C22D-64GRS kit with Samsung chips runs successfully only for 20 minutes or so and then shuts down without warning in a split second.
The manufacturer BIOS is not able to identify the correct amount of RAM and reports it as 0 instead of 64gb, while the Windows see all 64gb. There are complains about it on the internet. I have read it is a bug in the BIOS the manufacturer did not care to fix. Since the hardware is capable of supporting RAM of up to 128gb and there are HP laptops models with the same hardware that come with 64gb RAM from the factory, I come to the conclusion that 32gb RAM limit on my laptop model is artificial. Examples of the bug in BIOS https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Gaming-Notebooks/Brand-new-Omen-17-2022-laptop-shows-total-memory-0-af...

Not sure in fact HP does offer any models with the AMD Ryzen and 64 gigs. Would have to see that. I believe the model mentioned in the prior post would likely use the same BIOS as yours. But I am not shocked HP has defeatured the BIOS to allow no more than 32 gigs memory.

My apologies to the EXPERTS for the intrusion, but Feromir, you're wrong about that BIOS bug you mentioned. There have been complaints to HP Support about this, and also posts here on the HP community. According to posts on other forums (Reddit) HP has promised to address this issue on the next BIOS update (Omen 17 (2022) 0 in bios " A fix is expected in future BIOS updates").

Concerning the max ram on your system, how do you figure that your hardware supports 128gb RAM? Your CPU should support two 32gb RAM modules MAX. But when talking about systems, and not a standalone CPU, the actual limits of the hardware are dictated by the motherboard as well. And I don't mean just the BIOS firmware. That's why some systems have special requirements concerning single or dual rank Ram, memory density, chip organization on the modules, etc, etc.   Since Crucial and Kingston BOTH report 32GB as the absolute maximum RAM for your system, that means (as Huffer EXPERT Level 18 explained above) that they've tested that two 32GB modules can be problematic. Finally, from personal experience and having payed quite a lot of money with no reason at all in the past chasing my tail,  if you insist on beta testing officially unsupported configs, you should use the most compatible chips, and not gaming modules like the RIpjaws. Get some Samsung 32GB modules, or the ones from the Crucial site (not the Ballistix -the mainstream ones), or the KCP (branded) Ram by Kingston. Just my two cents worth.....

What you are saying makes sense and is not new to me. But we also know how the manufacturers create a range of models when differentiation of product features with the same hardware is often done through firmware.

Unfortunately I agree with you.....

Hello,

I have HP Victus 16-e0052ur 4L679EA (AMD Ryzen 5 5600H, GeForce RTX 3050ti). Firstly I upgraded it to 2x16gb (Samsung) and it worked well. Then I switched to 2x32gb (G Skill RipjawsV F4-3200C22D-64GRS) and unfortunately I have random shutdowns. The laptop could work days without issues and suddenly get shutdown. BIOS also reports 0gb of RAM. I found in Event Viewer the following issue: The iommu fault reporting has been initialized.

I do not know what to do, I maybe consider to find and check Samsung RAM.
