I recently purchased a used HP laptop/notebook. All the info I can find on the unit is 17-x025na. I've ordered a new battery and power cord. It also needs a hard drive and OS. The OS won't be a problem but I have no idea what hard drive to buy that will fit it. Anyone know?

Hi:
I recommend you install a 2.5" SATA SSD instead of a mechanical hard drive.
Get a Western Digital Blue 2.5" SATA SSD in the drive capacity that fits your need and budget.
I hope the drive caddy is still in your notebook as well as the drive connector.
Below is the link to the service manual.
Your PC should be supported by the HP cloud recovery tool which you can use with another Windows PC running W7 64 bit or newer to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.
Here is an info link for how to use that utility...you will need a 32 GB USB flash drive to create the recovery media with.

You're very welcome.
The caddy is the mounting bracket that secures the hard drive to the notebook.
Everything you need to know can be found in the service manual.
If you look at chapter 3, there is an illustrated parts catalog, and the caddy is labeled as a drive holder.

The product specs indicate it is a non-touchscreen display and that it does have touchpad.

I mean it has the two buttons on the bottom but not the touchpad. I mean it has the indentation where the touch pad goes but it just looks like one solid piece. On my old laptop you can clearly see that there is a hole and the touchpad sits inside it.
